Thanks Zoopy.com!

Here at Howzit-HongKong.com/BlitzBokke.com HQ, we do a lot of stuff.

Stuff that gets us around.

Stuff that gets us to network with lots of interesting (and sometimes, boring) people.

But most of all, stuff that we love doing.

For free. Vir niks. For mahala.

But as the saying goes, man shall not live by bread alone.

It’s the thanks that we receive from readers and Sevens rugby supporters from around the globe that sustain us.

OK, OK, while I love my bread (well, a fresh baguette to be specific) for sustenance and getting thank you e-mails from around the world, nothing makes me more happy than when the DHL-man knocks on my door unexpectedly.

Look what he brought me today:

Can I get a Whoop Whoop for my Zoopy-branded Flip Video Camera!

I have been a member of and contributor to the old Zoopy.com since their inception a few years ago.

On my profiles of KaapseKlonki and lately HowzitHongKong, I uploaded many of the video-clips that I embedded on my blogs and websites.

However, in an attempt at keeping up with the ever-changing trends in South Africa, Zoopy.com recently changed tack.  In a shrewd business move, CEO Jason Elk and his gang reinvented themselves from a user-generated content media sharing website, to an inhouse, made-for-mobile news content website. (Try saying that fast!)

While I cannot upload videos anymore, hopefully I (and you) will still be able to add to this groundbreaking, exciting new direction of Zoopy.com

You can assist by sharing with them what you are watching or, if you’re abroad, what the news in your neck-of-the-woods is.

Join Zoopy on Twitter (@zoopy) or on FaceBook

Excuse me while I go and play with my new toy!

The Zoopy.com app on my iPhone4 is available for free!

Great local rugby Christmas gift

In August of this year we alerted all you Saffa rugby fans out there in Honkie Land about the first-ever Hong Kong Rugby Calendar in support of a local player called Ben Kende who suffered serious spinal injuries while representing HK in U.20′s World Cup qualifiers.

Rugby Asia Channel (RAC) stepped up to the proverbial plate and produced a stunning calendar in order to raise financial support for this good cause.

The Calendar is now available for purchase so if you are looking for a suitable Christmas present, Hellooooo?!

Don’t bother running around the many malls around the SAR mense.  Simply make your way to the ESCAPADE Sports Shop on Leighton Rd, Causeway Bay for your copy.  Easier still, log on to www.4Dimagesonline.com and order your calendar.  Easy like that.

It’s for a great cause! Doennit!

This is how they did it….

First-ever HK Rugby Calendar

Back home we have the Chris Burger Petro Jackson Fund who looks after the needs of rugby players who suffered serious injuries playing the game.

The Chris Burger Petro Jackson Players’ Fund pays homage to two young rugby players who died playing the game they loved.

In 1980, Western Province fullback Chris Burger broke his neck and died in a Currie Cup match in Bloemfontein. This led to the founding of the Chris Burger Fund by then WP captain Morné du Plessis and his teammates. Petro Jackson, a young player from Kylemore in Stellenbosch, died during a match in 1989, prompting (the pre-unity body) SARU to establish a similar fund in his honour. In 1992, the two Funds were united to form the Chris Burger Petro Jackson Players’ Fund, as it is still known today in its 30th anniversary year. For more information on the Fund, click here

Locally, as far as we know, there is no such support for players who suffer serious injuries playing the game we all love.

Recently a local player called Ben Kende suffered serious spinal injuries while representing HK in U.20′s World Cup qualifiers.

This is when RugbyAsia Channel (RAC) stepped up. The online channel, who provides the latest television rugby action, news, games, interviews from grassroots to club and international teams from around Hong Kong and the wider Asia region, came up with a novel idea to produce Hong Kong’s very first Rugby Calendar. They roped in some of the Territory’s finest players, brought in a professional photographer and put together what promises to be a hit amongst rugby supporters and local lasses alike. Part of the proceeds from the sale of the calendar will be donated to Kende.
