FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup Finals

With the world's biggest sporting event in the FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup
looming on the horizon back home, we are going to start a brand-new feature
around what will also be the biggest event ever hosted by South Africa.  You can
find it by mousing-over the '
Visit SA' tab and clicking on FIFA 2010.
Here you will find interesting stories on what to do, where to go and many other
features relating to SA hosting the world in 2010!  It will of course be a work in
progress, so if you have any suggestions and/or feedback, or even your own
stories, do let us know and we'll gladly include it.
2009 East Asian Games in Hong Kong

The 2009 East Asian Games takes place between December 2-13, 2009 at
venues around the SAR.  Click
here to have a look at the list of venues and the
codes it will be hosting.  I am particularly interested in the Rugby Sevens which
will take place at the Hong Kong Stadium.
Tickets are already for sale to the public so go
here to find out more.

In true Hong Kong style, the Games will be opened with what promises to be a
spectacular Opening Ceremony over Victoria Harbour.  Although the tickets for the
Ceremony are selling for an equally spectacular HK$1000, the fireworks show will
of course be free for all.
Rugby

Saffas in Hong Kong got together to watch the Bokke thrash the Aussies &
Kiwis in the recent Tri-nations.  Word from Candice Glatthaar is that the pub
was packed every weekend the Springboks played! (see the picture)

The next big Saffa events in Hong Kong include:

* the monthly Imbizo (getogether)
* Spitbraai at The Stoep
* 2010 Rugby Sevens Dinner

HK Cricket Sixes 2009

It's almost that time of the year and the Kowloon Cricket Club will again play host to the
SAR's most exciting cricket spectacular.  More news about this year's event will follow
soon but in the meantime
have a look at the goings-on at the Kowloon Cricket Club in
2008.

Latest:
* Anil Kumble returns to Hong Kong for the 2009 Cricket Sixes (here)
* Organisers reduce ticket prices for 2009 Cricket Sixes (

* It's Northern vs. Southern Hemisphere for 2009 Cricket Sixes (

UBS Hong Kong Golf Open

I attended my first UBS Hong Kong Open at Sheung Shui last year.  What a tournament
it was!  Taiwan's Lin Wen-Tang defeated Ireland's Rory McIlroy in a closely-fought
play-off.  The crowd at a packed Hong Kong Golf Club were surely privvy to have
witnessed what must have been some of the most amazing shots ever played in the
SAR.

South Africa was again well-represented by David Frost, Rory Sabbatini, Keith Horne,
Louis Oosthuizen, Hendrik Buhrman and Richard Sterne.I will post all the latest on this
year's SA contingent, but in the meantime, have a look at what transpired during the
UBS Hong Kong Open 2008 by clicking
