Amptelike loting vir die Hong Kong Sewes
(Central, Hong Kong, Donderdag Februarie 14, 2008)
Cathay Pacific asook Credit Suisse.
Frankryk.
Official Draw for the Hong Kong Sevens
(Central, Hong Kong, 14 February 2008)
The Official Draw for the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens 2008 took
place at The Rotunda in Exchange Square, Central District. The Hong Kong leg of
the IRB Sevens Circuit is the only 24 team tournament, and as a result, 30 Points
instead of the usual 20 points are on offer for the champion team. The extra 10
points on offer could come in handy for any contender wishing to topple top
performer and log leaders New Zealand from the top of the Sevens log. The Kiwis
are currently in first position on 80 points with South Africa's Springboks second on
48 points. The cherry on the "Sevens Cake" is surely the event’s US$150,000 prize
purse, the most lucrative on the IRB Sevens World Series.
The special guests at the proceedings were the Chief Secretary for Administration of
the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, The Hon. Henry Tang,
and Mr T Brian Stevenson, SBS, President of the Hong Kong Rugby Football
Union. Other special guests who officated over the Draw were Mr James Barrington,
Director, Sales and Marketing, of co-title sponsor Cathay Pacific Airways and Mr
Eoin O'Shea, Asia Pacific Chief Operating Officer at co-title sponsor Credit Suisse.
Local rugby officials in attendance were Hong Kong Rugby Football Union (HKRFU)
Chairman Mr Trevor Gregory; Mr Allan Payne, Executive Director of the HKRFU and
Hong Kong Sevens Tournament Operations Director Mr Rod Mason.
