New Zealand Police to outlaw Borat-Swimsuits

Reports from Welling New Zealand are that Wellington
police have decided to ban the outrageous swimsuit (worn by
Sasha Baron Cohen's alter ego, Borat in his recent movie)
from it's recent Sevens Tournament.
"
It's a family event and there will be children there," an
officer told the TV3 network, appealing to fans to have "a
sense of decency
"

If I'm not mistaken (I was not inside the stadium last year)
some fans did actually wear the suits at the Hong Kong
Stadium during last year's Sevens event.  I fully concur with
the Wellington bobbies.  Many parents bring their little ones
for a day of fun at the game and exposure in the name of
fun, that goes down to the levels of the "Borat swimsuit" is
totally over the top and uncalled for at a family event such
as the Sevens.

Having said that, dressing up remains part of the tradition of
the HK Sevens and should be encouraged within reason.

The 2008 SAAHK Rugby Sevens Dinner

The guest speaker at this year's event has been named as the Springbok player and
member of the 1995 RWC winning side,

Wednesday March 26 at the Hong Kong Football Club.  Tickets are available at HK$400
per person while tables for 11 (plus 1 Bok Sevens team member) are selling at HK$4 800

Jakobus Johannes 'Kobus' Wiese was
born on May 16th 1964 in Paarl,
matriculating at Paarl Gymnasium. He
went on to study further at Paarl
Onderwys, and obtained his teaching
diploma from Goudstad.

He has played rugby for Boland,
Western Transvaal and Transvaal

Zealand, Wales, Scotland and Ireland
in 1994, Italy and England in 1995
and Argentina, France and Wales in
1996. He was of course, one of the
world cup Winning Squad in 1995,
becoming a national hero overnight.
He was then appointed to the
Gauteng Lions' captaincy when
francious Pienaar left the country.

Kobus is also a sought after speaker in

Hong Kong Sevens 2008

The Organisers of the Hong Kong Sevens Tournament recently
announced the dates for the 2008 edition: March 28-30, 2008

Venue: Hong Kong Stadium
March 28 (Friday)       04:30 pm - 9:15 pm
March 29 (Saturday)  10:30 am - 7:15 pm
March 30 (Sunday)    09:45 am - 6:40 pm

Unfortunately, 2008 sees a rare increase in ticket prices. A
ticket for the weekend will set you back HK$ 1 080 per adult
and HK$ 300 per child (up to 12 years old).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reports are that all the tickets for the 2008 Sevens were sold
out in about 4 hours!  Rumours are also that tickets for the
public are going to be "so skaars soos hoendertande" this year.
Even the SAAHK allocation was not spared and we received
fewer tickets.

Howzit Hong Kong! has been inundated with information about
tickets. In true SA style folks are only now waking up to the fact
that the Sevens is upon us, but sorry mense, if you don't have
your ticket or if you're not privvy to a corporate box, you're
going to be at the mercy of scalpers outside of the Hong Kong
Stadium!
